Referee Mark Clattenburg involved in new race row

Manchester United beat Chelsea 3-2 at Stamford Bridge, in match marred in controversy not just because of the result on the field. The Blues have sensationally made a complaint against referee during the game Mark Clattenburg for racially abusing two of their players. Clattenburg, who controversially sent off two Chelsea players in the match, is alleged to have verbally abused John Obi Mikel, though it is not yet known which other Chelsea player had lodged a complaint. Anything said by Clattenburg would have also been heard by his two assistants and the fourth officials, as they are all miked and wear earpieces to aid communication during the game. Another shocking episode to the match occurred when a steward was hospitalised after claims were made that £1 coins were thrown by furious Chelsea fans in the wake of Javier Hernandez’s winner for United, a goal that appears to have been offside. The worrying allegations come a year after John Terry was first accused of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand, in Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to QPR where they were similarly reduced to nine men.
